SOMANDLA “Mafia” Ndebele reckons unity and collaborations will help keep sungura alive.
The Denda Brothers leader opened up on the sidelines of the Sungura Fest at Pamuzinda Highway Xscape last Friday.
He shared the stage with Alick Macheso, Peter Moyo, Leonard Zhakata, Mark Ngwazi and Senator Tichareva.
“I was humbled to be part of this star-studded line-up given we hardly get such opportunities.
“I was impressed to note that sungura still has a big following.
“If we unite and combine forces like what other artistes in other genres do, we can go far.
“It’s never too late for us to do some collaborations in the studio,” he said.
Soma said it was high time artistes stayed away from unnecessary tiffs.
“I have heard about some artistes who want to compete with others.
“Music is not a competition but a mission.
“I won’t mention names but I think some of the comparisons are not necessary at all,” he added.
Meanwhile, Soma is busy in the studio working on a new album.
With over 20 albums to his credit, Soma is not slowing down.
“I can’t slow down because music is a calling that I can hardly resist.
“I have a role to play as an artiste in educating the masses,” he said.
