The man (name withheld) sustained serious injuries in the head and was pronounced dead on arrival at Mpilo Central Hospital.
A witness who spoke on condition of anonymity said the man was walking past a bushy area near Njube High School at about 8pm when some people pounced on him.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed police had received a report about the incident which occurred sometime last week.
