A 25-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo woman has appeared in court for allegedly stealing a Toyota Tundra double cab worth US$70 000 and crashing it while driving without a license.

Sikhosini Dube, of Lobengula West suburb, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Sibonginkosi Mnkandla facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle and driving without a valid driver’s license.

The prosecutor, Ms Nomthandazo Mafu, said the incident occurred on 15 July when the complainant, Mr Denzel Mwampokolo, met Dube in New Parklands suburb. The two exchanged contact details and agreed to meet again later that day.

They later met and went to Mwampokolo’s residence in Khumalo suburb, where they had drinks. At around 10PM, Dube allegedly took a set of car keys without the complainant’s consent and drove off in his Toyota Tundra. She was allegedly intoxicated and unlicensed at the time.

Dube allegedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a precast wall at Mwampokolo’s property. Undeterred, she continued driving towards the city centre, where she rammed into a streetlight at the intersection of Fort Street and Leopold Takawira Avenue, damaging the vehicle’s suspension.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to Dube’s arrest and the recovery of the vehicle.
