Unlicensed kombi driver banned for life

from driving public service vehicles and heavy trucks by a Gweru magistrate.

Tatenda Muzikami who was facing a charge of driving through a red robot and another of driving without a driver’s licence, pleaded not guilty to both counts but was convicted by Gweru magistrate, Ms Florence Nago.

Muzikami was slapped with an effective three and half years for both counts and he was banned for life from driving public service vehicles and heavy trucks.

For the State, Mr Bernard Nyoni told the court that on 6 January 2013 and at the intersection of 3rd Street and Lobengula Avenue in Gweru, Muzikami was approached by the police while loading passengers in a commuter omnibus.

Mr Nyoni said upon seeing the police, Muzikami proceeded to drive through a red robot as he tried to flee from the police.

The court heard that a police vehicle, which was nearby then chased after Muzikami and he was arrested.

Further police investigations later revealed that Muzikami had no driver’s licence.
