Unlocking Zim’s true value for future generations

Dr Obert Moses Mpofu

THE idea has, and will always be, to leave Zimbabwe in a better state that we found it when we took over from the repressive Ian Smith regime.

Every policy by ZANU PF and its Government since then has been to take the country to the next level, with the goal of securing the future of our youth and those who will come after them.

Each one of our policies and endeavours have been pro-people and pro-poor.

The guerrillas who freed this country and later took over its governance knew pretty well what had to be done to improve people’s lives. Unfortunately, the exercise to fully decolonise our people has been a slow one owing to how deeply entrenched colonialism was.

This has slowed down our progress, but we are not deterred.

We still soldier on and continue with the invaluable task of decolonising the mind of the African.

We will not rest until all the remnants of colonialism are decimated.

The few of us who are left among the generation that joined the struggle against colonialism will make sure this country will not fall back into the hands of those who want to keep us under their boot forever.

We will never be a colony again.

There are some amongst us who have been lured by the enemy to sell out, and they have been more than willing to betray their own kind.

History will judge such individuals harshly.

Zimbabwe will rise and we shall all enjoy the fruits of our toil when we finally attain President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 of an upper middle-income economy.

President Mnangagwa is our very own Deng Xiaoping, for he has ushered in a new era of prosperity, where our economy has been opened up and our nation is once more rising to take its rightful position.

Those who doubt this would, sooner or later, be left with no choice but to reconcile themselves to the great works that the people’s party, through its Government, is implementing.

The massive infrastructure projects, such as the impressive upgrading of our roads and power generation, among others, are being implemented to empower and uplift the entire nation.

The mind is the greatest weapon that can be used for driving a people’s success or, in other instances, preventing them from achieving their desired goal.

We should awaken to the capabilities that we have as Zimbabweans and the immense resources at our disposal.

The colonisers planted the idea in some of our people that only the white man has the key to emancipation.

Well, there is a lot that blacks can do and oftentimes they can do it better than the white man.

The tragedy has only been that the standards that have been used to measure and gauge the success of the black man are unfair and a bit skewed in favour of the white man.

We should be given an opportunity to pursue our own path.

Through the efforts of the Second Republic to awaken and revamp each and every sector of our economy, we are unlocking Zimbabwe’s true value for the benefit of future generations.

The efforts made thus far should be commended.

We should all put our heads together and unite to drive our development in a peaceful environment. This will be done by ZANU PF, while recognising that our people are the most important element in this matrix.

If it is not for the people and for their future benefit, then ZANU PF will not waste time on it.

Dr Obert Moses Mpofu is an academic and the Secretary-General of ZANU PF. He writes in his own capacity.
