Imitating his father who was in his 80s was one of the favourite things Jabulani Sigauke would do during his spare time. He enjoyed comically copying the old man’s habits and this amused him and his peers as they did their small acting escapades.But it was not until he finished his secondary education that Sigauke took acting seriously. Now, a few years down the line, he is the man behind the Sekuru Zvambu character that is well known for comic acts at Jah Prayzah’s shows.
Sekuru Zvambu came to the limelight through the comedy series “Bag Ravaruka”.
“It is in real life that you see some old people who are notorious and very stubborn and my part reflects such people in the society,” said Sigauke.
In the comedy the 25-year-old actor sparks controversy on several occasions.
Sigauke was born in Sakubva Township in Mutare where he did his primary education before moving to Harare for his secondary education. To him it was not even in his dreams that one day he will earn a living from imitating his father.
In the latest series of “Bag Rabvaruka” he got into trouble after he peeped at his friend’s wife while she was taking a bath. The commotion ended after the intervention of Alick Macheso who features in the drama as Sekuru Zvambu’s young brother.
Macheso became the latest musician to feature in the comedy with other musicians Peter Moyo, Jah Prayzah and Sulumani Chimbetu having taken part in previous editions of the comedy.
Executive producer Lloyd Kurima aka Mabla 10 said he met Sigauke in his neighbourhood imitating his father.
“I just thought it was appropriate to give him that role because I met him in Budiriro imitating his father and to me he was the right person for that role,” said Kurima.
Sigauke lives in Budiriro 5 where he is renting a single room.
“I am married though we do not have a child yet but my wife is happy and I am managing to pay rentals from such projects,” said Sigauke.
Last weekend at Megga 1 Bar in Graniteside he took his comics on stage where Jah Prayzah was performing much to the delight of the fans. In his usual brown suit, white woollen hat and fake white beard Sekuru Zvambu entertained fans with his antics.
