HIGHLANDERS chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, has lifted the lid on a series of club projects, staff changes and ongoing investigations, as members packed into Sunday’s Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) — where a mooted vote of no confidence against him fizzled out before it could even be tabled.

Mhlophe revealed that the first phase of the club’s five-year contract with its clubhouse consultant had already lapsed.

“With regards to the first phase of our five-year contract with the clubhouse consultant, it lapsed in March 2025. According to the agreement, this was the loan repayment phase, during which the consultant was expected to recover funds from the business to service the loan extended to the club for renovations and upgrades.

“The consultant is now being sought for engagement to fulfil obligations in the next phase of the contract,” he said.

On the long-delayed kitchen project, Mhlophe confirmed that new tenants were being lined up.

“The previous tenants were given notice some months ago. Applications for new occupancy were received, and the list has been narrowed down to about six.

“The final selection process is underway, and we hope to unveil the new tenant soon,” he said.

The chairman also reported progress on the club’s car wash venture.

“Equipment to run the car wash has been sourced and secured by the club. We are engaging further to upgrade the washing bays and surrounding areas to meet standards that will enhance the customer experience. The current occupants have been served notice and are expected to vacate the premises.”

Regarding the club’s mining claim, Mhlophe told members that efforts were ongoing to secure the licence renewal and attract investors.

“Certain requirements have been revisited and included in the application process. To facilitate this, we are actively working with key regulatory authorities to establish essential structures, including appointing an interim mine manager and securing mining partners and investors. Potential partners have been identified, with agreements to be concluded once the licence is renewed.”

The meeting also addressed staffing matters. Following the death of former CEO Sihlangu Dlodlo, the club appointed Brian Moyo, who later resigned under circumstances now before the courts.

“He (Moyo) has been replaced by Denzel Mnkandla, who assumed duty on August 1 after a thorough recruitment process. Miss Nozibelo Maphosa resigned from her position as the club’s communications officer on July 31 to pursue other career opportunities,” said Mhlophe.

There was also acknowledgement of the recent raid at the club offices by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.

“Their investigations are ongoing, and the club is fully co-operating with every request. No further comment can be made at this stage, but the outcomes will be communicated through the appropriate channels,” he said. Just hours later, Bosso’s troubles extended from the boardroom to the pitch, as they slumped to a 2–0 defeat against TelOne at Barbourfields Stadium.

Tawanda Macheke gave TelOne the lead in the ninth minute before Highlanders goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda missed a second-half penalty. Luckmore Mutumbi was sent off soon after, and Washington Navaya sealed the win with a stoppage-time goal.

The defeat left fans seething, while bitter rivals Dynamos celebrated a second consecutive win under former Bosso coach, Kelvin Kaindu. Dembare brushed aside Kwekwe United 3-0 in Gweru, with goals from Jairos Kasondo, Wisdom Mutasa and Ransom Chingwara.

Elsewhere, Yadah edged CAPS United 2-1, Triangle United stunned FC Platinum 2-0, Scottland beat ZPC Kariba 2-1, Chicken Inn drew 0-0 with Manica Diamonds, MWOS and Simba Bhora shared the spoils in a goalless draw and Ngezi Platinum Stars were held 1-1 by Bikita Minerals. Greenfuel fell 1-0 at home to Herentals.
