THE Sports and Recreation Commission has moved the unveiling of the 2017 Annual National Sports Awards (Ansa) nominees to Monday after encountering some logistical challenges with the initial November 15 deadline.
The awards ceremony will, however, still be held in Harare on December 13.
“The unveiling of the nominees has since been moved to December 4 as there were some logistical issues which we had to attend to but we are happy that we have managed to overcome them,” said the SRC spokesperson Tirivashe Nheweyembwa.
Nominees are put forward by their respective National Sport Associations (NSA) and if that does not happen, the SRC tracks the athletes.
Nheweyembwa said the organising committee of the Ansa was working round the clock to ensure the event is a success since this is a premier SRC and national event.
“It must also be borne in mind that Ansa is for high achievers; this is not a sport for all event hence the need for us to ensure we deliver a high quality event consistent with what this brand stands for,” Nheweyembwa said.
“In order for us to deliver a memorable event in which we will truly celebrate, honour and reward our high achievers, there is a need for all stakeholders to lend their support to this important project. It is therefore, our clarion call to the corporate world to partner us as we seek to ensure that the Ansa brand is profiled as a top of the range brand, which will transform the sport sector,” he said.
Nheweyembwa added that sport was now a full time profession hence the need to ensure that the rewards are consistent with the nomenclature, further highlighting that potential investors were assured of a return on their investment.
The SRC is mandated to organise the awards in terms of the SRC Act.
