Only 16 days are left before Zimbabwe and Zambia co-host the tourism indaba scheduled for 24 to 29 August.
In an interview yesterday, Mr Hwingwiri said the hotels were almost fully booked adding that what was left was confirmation of bookings through payment by some delegates.
Some hotels such as Elephant Hills Resort, Victoria Falls Hotel, Kingdom Hotel, A’Zambezi River Lodge and lodges like Tatenda and Pamusha were accredited by ZTA to handle some of the delegates coming in for the general assembly. “Bookings for the general assembly are encouraging.
“Hotels are almost fully booked and all we are waiting for are confirmations by the delegates. We are just waiting on the financial details of the bookings,” he said.
Mr Hwingwiri said indications were also very clear that from 23 to 29 August, the hospitality sector in the resort town was going to record brisk business.
“Things are looking up, there is no going back, the general assembly is upon us and we are very happy that the time for the country to showcase its attractiveness, its flora and fauna and the ever smiling Zimbabweans is here,” he said.
Mr Hwingwiri said the general assembly was also going to leave behind a legacy for the resort town.
Zimbabwe Council of Tourism president, Mr Glenn Stutchbury said all parties were pulling together to have a successful general assembly.
“As ZCT we are happy, road works, water supply, street lighting projects are all at an advanced stage and will be an asset to the town,” he said.
