United Nations World Tourism Organisation brand ambassadors and stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality industry are set to embark on a maiden cruise on the Zambezi Trader, Zimbabwe’s only ship from Lake Kariba to the Victoria Falls, as part of the UNWTO general assembly activities.

The Zambezi Trader boat, which has a capacity to carry 150 people, will embark on the maiden cruise from Kariba to Binga via Bumi Hills and Luzi Lukulu. From Binga the passengers will then use buses to travel to Victoria Falls. This will take place from August 29 to 31.

UNWTO brand ambassador for Victoria Falls and Zambezi  Mr Hugo Ribatika said the cruise was an opportunity for many people to experience Kariba differently and network.

He said many people were used to going for fishing in Kariba but the resort area had many things to offer.
“Kariba and Binga have been neglected in terms of tourism maybe because of the climate. All people think about Kariba is fishing. Kariba is the biggest man-made lake which makes it unique,” he said.

Mr Ribatika said he was working to ensure the event becomes a success. Zambezi Trader operations manager Mr Qeinten de Lange said a lot of people were not visiting Kariba because they did not know what was there to do.

He said the crew would be treated to various activities at the beach and there would also be an opportunity for fishing.
