A total of 38 songs were submitted to the ZTA.
“The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority has always taken pride in working with our esteemed artistes particularly in the promotion of tourism within and outside Zimbabwe. This we have done in the scope of the Memorandum of Understanding we signed with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe. We are proud of our continued cooperation at institutional level for mutual benefit,” ZTA Chief Executive Mr Karikoga Kaseke said.
The artistes of the winning song will receive US$30 000 which ZTA will pay in installments.Five other artistes are also going to be rewarded financially by the ZTA for their songs which were exceptional.
Affable crooner Tanga Wekwasando who was placed in the second position will receive US$15 000 and Jairos Hamba Hamba who took third spot will get US$12 500.Jennifer Muneni, Bob Nyabinde and Rute Mbangwa will each get, US$10 000, US$7 500 and US$5 000 respectively.
“The reason why we are giving these prizes is simply to acknowledge the efforts by our musicians and their desire to promote destination awareness through their talents. As an institution it is our wish to contribute to the development and promotion of the arts and music sector which is critical to tourism,” Mr Kaseke added.
ZTA has advised the winners to perfect their projects before they are deployed on the market ahead of the UNWTO General Assembly.
