President Mnangagwa met a delegation from the University of Zambia’s Class of 1975 at State House in Harare this morning.
The delegation is in Zimbabwe on a benchmarking visit to study the Emmerson Dambudzo (ED) Mnangagwa School of Law in Kwekwe with a view to adopting a similar model at the University of Zambia.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Professor Mpazi Sinjela, the head of the delegation and President Mnangagwa’s former classmate at the University of Zambia, said they were impressed by the ED Mnangagwa School of Law and its contribution to legal education.
He said the visit will provide valuable insights into the establishment and operation of the law school, which the delegation hopes to use as a model for strengthening legal education at the University of Zambia.
“We were impressed with the ED Law School in Kwekwe. We are in the process of building a law school, but before we commence, we wanted to see what the ED Law School looks like.
“It is extremely impressive, and we would like to copy some ideas from that law school and bring them to Zambia as well.”
On Wednesday, the delegation toured the state-of-the-art facility in Kwekwe, describing it as a milestone in strengthening legal education and promoting regional academic integration.
The visiting delegation includes members of the University of Zambia School of Law Class of 1975, President Mnangagwa’s former classmates.
While in Kwekwe, the delegation also presented a publication titled “Conversations With The Law School Class of 1975”, which chronicles the experiences of those who studied law alongside President Mnangagwa.
