A CHIKANGA-based upcoming artiste has released four singles ahead of the launch of his debut album later this year. Tinashe Mugonda affectionately known as Carltrizzy specialises in a fusion of hip-hop and R&B and has recorded songs like I know, Zvakapera Kare, No rest and Chaipa Chatanga. In an interview, the 22-year-old artiste said his music was on real life situations.
“I have always believed in doing things which reflect on the day-to-day happenings in the community I live in.
“The song ‘No Rest’ was my way of encouraging youths and the nation at large that there will be no gain without pain.
“People need to persevere in everything they do if their efforts are to come to fruition.
“‘I know’ is a song I wrote after I faced criticism from people who thought I was not serious about my music,” he said.
Carltrizzy, however, cited financial constraints as a major setback in his music endeavours.
“Finances are a challenge to almost every upcoming musician and instead of just waiting for the time when one will be having a lot of money, I think it is noble to release singles so that people get a taste of your brand for them to support you as well as help you run with your vision,” he said.
He also said juggling work and music can be a mammoth task.
Said Cartrizzy: “I am currently employed at Chicken Inn and I must say mixing work and my music is quite demanding. I spent the better part of my time at work and I don’t get much time to really focus on writing my songs. My passion, however, drives me to continue doing music.”
Asked from where he draws his inspiration, Carltrizzy mentioned Drake and Akon as his role models.
“Hip-hop and R&B music in Zimbabwe has not gained much momentum especially nowadays when there is stiff competition from the vibrant Zim-dancehall.
“I take Akon and Drake’s art as a guideline whenever I want to do my music so that I produce the best music I can under the conditions.
“I hope that with time, Zimbabwe will have more hip-hop artistes from whom some of us will learn,” he said.
Carltrizzy is set to release a 10-track album, Dreams Come True in the near future.
