UPDATE….Only Deputy Mayor Muronda and Mashayamombe arrested: ZACC clarifies

Remember Deketeke

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has clarified that only former Harare South legislator Shadreck Mashayamombe and Harare Deputy Mayor Rosemary Muronda have been arrested, clarifying earlier reports that Harare Mayor Councillor Jacob Mafume was also in custody.

ZACC said Cllr Mafume has not been arrested but was invited for questioning as investigations continue.

The clarification was made by ZACC Commissioner Kindness Paradza following the report he gave to The Herald this afternoon which stated that both Mashayamombe and Cllr Mafume had been arrested.

“We arrested Mashayamombe but as for the Mayor, we invited him for questioning. This means the mayor at this stage is not under arrest. Having said that, investigations are currently in progress,” said Commissioner Paradza.

“Deputy Mayor Rosemary Muronda and Shadreck Mashayamombe are the two we arrested. As I said the mayor was called in for questioning and was allowed to go home. He was not arrested.”

“Mashayamombe is facing fraud charges while the Harare Deputy Mayor faces criminal abuse of office. Two other senior council officials are still at large but net is closing in.”

ZACC said further updates will be provided as investigations unfold.
