UPDATED: One dies as Rushwaya escapes fatal crash

Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) president Ms Henrieta Rushwaya, who was involved in an accident just outside Kwekwe on her way from the organisation’s Annual General Meeting in Gweru last night, is in a stable condition.

One person died on the spot while Rushwaya together with her driver and another passenger, escaped unhurt. The accident happened about 20 kilometres outside Kwekwe towards Kadoma when a Toyota 2 ton truck heading to Kwekwe encroached into the opposite lane resulting in a head on collision with Rushwaya’s Toyota Hilux.

Police could not immediately confirm the accident but Rushwaya told The Herald that the she was still shaken by the incident.

“It was around 10pm when we had just left Kwekwe. I just heard a loud bang and all of a sudden people were screaming. I later realised we had been involved in an accident,” she said.

The vehicle Rushwaywa travelling in was reduced to a wreck and was ferried to Kwekwe Vehicle Inspection Department Depot.
