POLICE has arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the robbery and brutal murder of prominent Ruwa businessman Joseph “Mutangaz” Mutangadura, who was killed at his farmhouse in August.

Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest of Phillip Mutasa, who was tracked down by detectives from the CID Homicide in Mkoba Six, Gweru, on Friday.

Mutasa has since implicated seven accomplices, who remain at large.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Phillip Mutasa (38) in connection with the robbery and murder of Joseph Mutangadura (67), which occurred at Mutangadura Hideout along Dunstan Road, Ruwa, Harare on 17th August 2025,” said Comm Nyathi.

Mutangadura, a well-known businessman who owned Mutangaz Hideout, Mutangaz Panyama and Lisheen Estate, was attacked at his farmhouse by a gang of armed robbers in the early hours of August 17.

According to police, seven masked men armed with pistols, claw bars and hammers stormed the property around 11pm.

They overpowered a security guard, tied his hands and forced him into the house.

The gang then broke into the main bedroom.

The businessman was shot in the stomach as he lay in bed.

Both businessman and his wife were found unconscious and rushed to Eden Hospital in Ruwa, where Mutangadura was pronounced dead on arrival.

His wife survived the attack.

The suspects ransacked the house before fleeing, but the exact value of stolen property is yet to be established.

Police then launched a manhunt for the suspects.

Mutangadura, who was 67, was buried at Goromonzi Turnoff Cemetery in Mashonaland East in August.
