Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Petronella Kagonye has urged couples to put God first in everything, seek wisdom and uphold family values.
Minister Kagonye was speaking at the wedding ceremony of Brian Kumadiro and Shelter Chigodho on December 24 at Eskbank Gardens in Mazowe. Kumadiro is a nephew to Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Advocate Martin Dinha. Minister Kagonye said most of the problems they face in the ministry is taking care of children who have been abandoned and some from broken families.
“It is a joy to see young couples like Brian and Shelter being joined together in holy matrimony. Let’s give them support and advice so that they stay in marriage until death separates them,” said Minister Kagonye.
“To the couple I say, seek God and let him lead you. Seek wisdom because it will teach you how to take care of each other. Pray all the time and uphold family values.
“A man who knows God will know how to lead, pray and work for his family. Likewise a woman with wisdom knows how to take care of her husband.” National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC)’s Commissioner Ms Patience Chiradza urged the couple to always communicate to each other.
“Communication is key and when a couple stops communicating, suspicion starts to rise. Always do everything together and support each other’s careers. Try to like each other’s interests. It helps to strengthen the bond,” said Ms Chiradza.
“Be each other’s friend. Domestic violence is created by lack of communication. Resolve disputes through family structures, the church and people in your community. Domestic violence is destructive to the whole family.” Advocate Dinha told his nephew to shun domestic violence and give his wife an opportunity to make her own money.
“Today she is looking so beautiful we don’t want to see her later with scars. Your children will learn from how you treat each other. Give your wife the opportunity to make her own money. It will also benefit you,” said Adv Dinha.
