UNITED STATES-based philanthropist, Chenayi Siachakanzwa, has vowed to fight and end child marriages in marginalised communities around Kariba.
Through her organisation, Tinovimba Trust, Siachakanzwa donated stationery to hundreds of students in the Negande area where she also introduced the spelling bee competition.
Siachakanzwa said she was identifying students who will take part at a spelling final in Abuja, Nigeria, in December.
“Through Tinovimba Trust, we donated stationery and a few clothes to more than 250 beneficiaries in Negande.
“We also introduced a spelling bee competition and selected 10 students at Siakobvu Primary School who will proceed to Lomagundi College where they will battle it out with other students from across the country.
“This is the first time that the district has held such a competition and we hope the next edition will be bigger and better.”
She said it was her wish to see young girls succeeding in all their pursuits.
“I want to see the young generation succeed through their natural academic talents as we move to end child marriages, drug abuse and HIV and Aids.
“We are using the competition to discover hidden talents and provide an equal platform for the girls,” she said.
