held on November 11 in New York, USA.
The talented model will square off with 28 other models drawn from different countries around the world.
Maxine (20) – a second year Bachelor of Arts student at the University of Cooper Union in Manhattan, New York – is one of only two contestants from Africa with the other model hailing from South Africa. According to her mother, Tsitsi Chikumbo, the vivacious model is determined to lift the Zimbabwean flag high. “She is determined and that alone shows that she can get somewhere judging from the number of votes that she already has,” she said.
The competition has a US$1 000 prize money tag as well as various other packages including a contract to appear on the National US Magazine cover, seven nights of accommodation at a five star hotel, crown and award, among others.
Just like in the Big Brother reality show, where contestants’ popularity depends on the votes they garner from fans, the same applies to the Miss Diaspora Models contest where one gets votes via Facebook. This means that Maxine’s chances lie with the number of votes that she gets from fellow Zimbabweans.
Voters can log on to https:www.facebook.com/pages/Diaspora-Models/8336438891 where they will find Maxine’s photo right at the bottom and vote.
