Since time immemorial the United States has bullied, sanctioned and attacked other nations, isolating and slapping them with sanctions and embargoes for enjoying their territorial integrity.
In psychology, such behaviour is an indication of an illness. Scrutiny has however revealed that the US government is scared.
It is scared of competition in military and trade. The fact that China is the second largest economy in the world and at the rate it is growing it might overtake the US soon something it fears.
Fear has engulfed the US so much it has begun to make wrong decisions, flexing muscles even in situations that require diplomacy, in the process creating more enemies than friends.
Recently, the US sanctioned China for cooked-up human rights violations against the Ugyhur people that live in Xinjiang province.
The human rights card seems to be the US’ trump card against countries that challenge its hegemony or disrupt its foreign policy that is full of blood-shed.
One wonders who appointed the US as a human rights watchdog. Many nations have fallen victim of the supposed human rights violations, Zimbabwe chief among them. This time, however, the US has met its match in China which retaliated and slapped the US, 10 European Union politicians, companies and institutions with sanctions.
The Chinese clearly spelt out that US was accusing China of human right abuses in Xinjiang province based on “rumours and disinformation”, hence the Asian nation was “firmly determined” to safeguard its national sovereignty, security and development interests.
The United States will lose in this battle as it has for a very long time relied on China’s cheap labour to manufacture its products.
Most US companies had opened manufacturing branches in China, not to mention the huge uptake of US products by China.
China’s crime has never been human rights violation, but that it continued in its trade with Russia that the US had put under sanctions.
In September of 2018, the US government sanctioned Russia under what it termed Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA). So obviously sanctioning China had nothing to do with the Uyghur Muslim people, but it was to serve as a stern warning to countries that might want to go against the US sanctions list.
This is not the first time the US has flexed its muscles and China had retaliated. From the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the US wanted to flex its muscles, demanding that China be held accountable for the pandemic or else it withdraws funding to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The US’ pre-condition to WHO was thrown out leading the US to withdraw its funding to WHO. China again filled in the gap and showed the US that there are other more capable countries that can support a good cause as it more than doubled the amount the US usually contributed to WHO.
Not once, but twice China has proven that the US can be put under sanctions. Countries under US sanctions should seriously consider boycotting products and services from the US, more than ever they should refuse the fake handouts in the form of donations. The US is not God and can be challenged and countries can retaliate through sanctioning it as well.
The US foreign policy is centred on destabilising countries with resources, isolating them and bleeding them dry of their resources.
Venezuela, Iraq, Libya, Zimbabwe, Russia, now China have all been put under US sanctions. Through sanctions the US has terrorised and caused a lot of grief due to loss of livelihoods and lives to innocent lives. Sanctions are actually a human rights violation, the United Nations (UN) cannot continue to sit and watch as the US terrorises and kills people through sanctions. Now that China has slapped it with sanctions perhaps it will feel the pinch as it has done to other non-combative nations.
Justifying the sanctions against China, top Canadian diplomat Marc Garneau said, “Bullies don’t change unless you send a clear message to them.”
True to his message, the same can be said about the US which is a bully and need a message to be sent. In the same vein the EU Commission Vice President for Foreign Affairs High Commission Representative Joseph Borrell, expressed his revulsion over China’s retaliatory action and said, “retaliating sanctions is regrettable, rather than address the concerns, rather than change policies and address their legitimate concerns, China is being confrontational”.
It is quite clear that the US expects to walk all over sovereign states, while they sit back and take the torture and harassment. Through sanctions the US has committed many atrocities across the world, but to this day it has not been held accountable.
Meanwhile, Muslims, African-Americans, Mexican-Americans and other minority or foreign descendants have been regarded as second class citizens in the US who can be violated, tortured and killed by the US government. Surprisingly no one raises human rights violations against the US.
Muslims have been tortured and stereotyped against since the 9/11 bombings, the US even went further to signing the Patriotic law to give it power to search private records and detain suspects in the name of fighting terror.
So if you happen to be Muslim in the US, then obviously you would be subject to abductions, false arrests, vandalism, arson, torture, and your privacy will be invaded. Still no sanctions have been slapped on the US and the UN, which gets a large chunk of its funding from the Americans, turns a blind eye to the country’s excesses.
Many drones have been sent to Afghanistan, to Iran, to Iraq, to Libya and to the Middle East still no mention of sanctioning the US even with the gross human atrocities, it has committed and continues to commit even at Guantanamo Bay detention camp. The world needs to take another look at who is a violator of human rights, and who should be put under sanctions.
