US should let peace prevail

that the United States believes that being a superpower as it is, means bullying other nations.
America believes that the only president who should be respected is the one who has charisma and power to challenge other sovereign states and show them that they are a superpower nation.
Indications on the ground are that, Romney’s election into the White House would be a disaster.
His foreign policy proposal sent shivers to the world as he openly told his people that once elected into the White House, his main task would be to deal with Iran before it is too late.
While I have no candidate of my choice between the two, my bias would be towards someone who supports peace in the world. One would just say the Americans are birds of the same feather, but one should not seek the ticket to the White House by promising to                 destabilise the world.
The Republican candidate has told his supporters that his foreign policy would start by putting Iran on notice that the United States and its allies will prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapon capabilities.
He went on to say that he would ensure that Syrian opposition members would receive arms needed to defeat the Assad regime. Romney continued to say that he would make sure foreign assistance would be reformed to create incentives for good governance, free media and free independent judiciary.
He also hinted that there will be no flexibility on Russia on a missile defence shield in Europe in which previous American administrations had been planning to build. Romney also criticised the Obama                     administration policies towards what he called an “assertive” China and vowed to rebuild global US                  military strength.
Such judgment from an aspiring president could make one see that once he gets into power, the world will be at the mercy of another Republican warmonger like George W. Bush.
Romney and his supporters should learn from                  President Mugabe who always preaches peace regardless of where he would be.
In his recent address to the United Nations, he said that the world should not be obsessed with settling disputes by force, but through negotiations.
President Mugabe’s call for UN reforms are premised on the fact that America has been manipulating the world body to its advantage. Back home, President Mugabe on October 8, 2012, told the people at the   burial of national hero, Dr Stan Mudenge, to be tolerant of each other’s views to allow peaceful elections expected next year.
America and its allies should know that political            disputes should not be settled by force, but through negotiations as championed by President Mugabe.
It is surprising to note that Romney has ignored to mention that the UN could be of help in his foreign policy. He has not indicated to seek UN assistance in pursuing Iran’s nuclear programmes. Romney told the Americans that he would be tougher than Obama in tackling world affairs.
While Romney is revealing that he would be tougher in office if ever elected, Russia is calling for non-violent approach in solving the Iranian crisis.
While world leaders, including President Mugabe, are calling for peaceful resolutions in conflicts, Americans think that force should be the answer.
A recent Pew Research Centre poll has shown that 49 percent of voters would vote for Romney against 45 percent for Obama in November, putting the world at risk of another war monger like George W. Bush.
The fact that Romney seems to be leading Obama in opinion polls, after coming up with his tough foreign policy which has ingredients of military invasions in other sovereign states, confirms that Americans are for war.
How could people become obsessed with supporting a person who thinks militarily invading other countries is the best for conflict resolution instead of negotiation?
The crisis in the Middle East needs negotiations not confrontations. Now that countries like Syria and Turkey are at loggerheads, with Israel and Iran showing signs of an imminent military confrontation within months, if not weeks to come, then the Americans should not seek to fuel such conflicts by supplying arms to warring parties.
They should prevent such deadly political                     confrontations before the Middle East is engulfed by war.
Americans should support the UN Secretary General’s efforts of trying to make the world peaceful as he called for the rising tension in the Middle East to calm and that countries in that region should show restraint as well as supporting the need for dialogue, mutual respect and understanding.
So Americans should embrace peace not war.
