A DISPUTE over a US$10 goat meat debt escalated into violence, and has left a Chimanimani man serving six years in prison.
Garikai Tirivangani (34) was convicted of attempted murder after pleading guilty at the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court.
The case was presided over by Mr Bishard Chineka, with Mr Isaac Tangwena leading the prosecution.
The incident occurred on March 29 at Madongonda tuckshops in the Chimanimani National Park area.
The court heard that Tirivangani had purchased goat meat worth US$30 from Trymore Nyowana, paying US$20, and leaving a balance of US$10.
When Nyowana pressed for the outstanding amount, tempers flared.
A friend of Nyowana struck Tirivangani with a machete.
In retaliation, Tirivangani stabbed Nyowana once in the stomach with an okapi knife.
The wound was so severe that Nyowana’s intestines protruded, leaving him in a critical condition.
The knife used in the attack was recovered and presented in court as evidence.
