US$100K WEDDING, US$10K THEFT

Mathew Masinge

ABOUT a year ago, Mai TT hogged the limelight for all the right reasons.

This was the time of her life as she glowed during her lavish wedding in April last year.

It was believed she spent over US$100 000  on her special day where she was joined with Tinashe Maphosa.

But, after they divorced just a few months later, we should have known that not everything was what it seemed.

Thirteen-and-a-half months after her lavish wedding, she has been sentenced to nine months in prison for perjury and theft of trust property.

To distinguish this as drama, or reality, remains food for thought to her and her fans, the so-called ‘Cat Family.’

Her understanding of prison life has now become a reality, and it’s really important that we break down how the comedienne arrived at such a destination.

She was convicted of theft of trust property after she misrepresented to Rachel Mhuka that she owned a Mercedes Benz and gave it as surety in exchange for a US$10 000 loan.

She later withdrew the Merc and gave her an Audi Q5, which she had hired from Else Event Car Hire, for US$770 per week.

For her double-dealing, she was convicted of theft of trust property and handed a nine-month jail term.

Trial magistrate Munashe Chibanda said the sentencing had to be rational and fair for her as a female offender.

In that prison garb, it was hard to tell this was the same high-flying woman, who arrived for her wedding day in a chartered helicopter.

Of course, wearing a very expensive wedding gown.
