VP Nkomo named patron

President John Nkomo as the body’s patron.
VP Nkomo was appointed the institute’s patron at a graduation ceremony of 96 students in Harare yesterday.
“I gladly accept the honour of patron of Institute of Certified Tax Accountants of Zimbabwe. I pledge to work diligently towards its success and in the realisation of its vision and objectives,” he said in his acceptance speech.
He said he was impressed by the institute’s pioneering spirit and vision. “The setting up of this institute comes out of the realisation that personal aggrandisement and unfettered individualism are inimical to critical national ventures such as tax law and practice.
“It is, therefore, commendable that a group of progressive tax specialists saw it prudent to come together to form a professional body whose main mandate is to consolidate and enhance specialist knowledge on taxation in Zimbabwe,” VP Nkomo said.
He said a nation’s tax system was invariably a reflection of its general values.
“Formulation and implementation of credible taxation policy by Government is dependent upon sound and balanced inputs from tax specialists. “To facilitate ease of communication between key players at the national economic level, organisations such as the institute will provide an open and transparent consultative framework for the articulation of tax issues,” VP Nkomo said.
The institute was established in 2006 and now has 100 qualified certified tax accountants. It has over 400 students. Senior Government officials, including Harare Metropolitan Governor and Resident Minister David Karimanzira attended yesterday’s graduation ceremony.
