charged with unlawful entry.
Peter Chirisa (22) allegedly stole electrical gadgets and clothes from his former employer Tichaona Francis Samuriwo in Borrowdale.
The items, which include clothes, car parts and electrical gadgets are valued at US$21 577.
Chirisa on Monday was not asked to plead to the charge when he appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts before Mr Shane Kubonera.
The State led by Ms Svodai Kadivirire strongly opposed bail arguing that Chirisa was a flight risk since he was of no fixed abode.
She also told the court that Chirisa was still in possession of some of the stolen goods and the State feared he could have many duplicate keys to the house.
However, Chirisa pleaded for the court’s leniency and applied for bail arguing that he was the sole breadwinner of his family.
Mr Kubonera ruled in favour of the State and remanded Chirisa in custody to June 21.
It is the State’s case that between May 10 and June 3 this year, Chirisa, who was employed by Samuriwo, stole the keys to every room, which he used to make duplicate ones.
Chirisa would reportedly go to the house, as he was fully aware of the time when people would be away and steal several items.
It is alleged he stole three amplifiers, a computer, printer, toolbox, car radios and batteries, an electrical stove, hand sewing machine, computer cables, two home theatres, two digital cameras, LG DVDs, cables, electric irons and an electric borehole pump.
Chirisa, it is alleged, also stole groceries, shirts, trousers, jackets, T-shirts, socks and removed all the curtains around the house.
He was arrested on June 4 and was found in possession of some of the stolen items and the duplicate keys.
The value of the stolen property is US$21 577 and property worth US$16 577 was recovered, it is alleged.
