US$37 000 fuel deal lands GM in the dock

magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma.
Ms Tshuma remanded Mvere to October 24 on US$500 bail.
Mvere was ordered to surrender title deeds of his wife’s house in Chisipite, travel documents, report twice to the police and not to interfere with State witnesses as part of his bail conditions.
Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira alleges on August 18, M-Kay Petroleum approached Mvere at his workplace looking for business.
Mvere, the court heard, made a false representation that Downtown Petroleum wanted fuel and that he was authorised to handle its business transactions.
He allegedly entered into a contract with M-Kay Petroleum purporting to be representing Downtown Petroleum fully knowing its directors had not given him the mandate.
Terms of the contract reportedly stipulated payment in the form of a bank transfer or cash after delivery.
Mvere allegedly started placing small orders of petrol and diesel from M-Kay Petroleum and making due payments at the same time.
On January 7, the State said, Mvere in pursuit of his plan ordered 30 238 litres of petrol from M-Kay Petroleum at a price of US$1, 23 per litre.
M-Kay Petroleum made a follow-up on payment when it was due but Mvere did not honour it.
The court heard that M-Kay Petroleum later made a follow-up with directors of Downtown Petroleum who dismissed the deal.
The directors allegedly told M-Kay Petroleum that Mvere had concealed the deal from them.
M-Kay Petroleum was prejudiced of US$37 192, 74 and US$17 258 was recovered.
