MUTARE City Council has received US$400 000 from the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the installation of a pipeline that will supply water to Dangamvura. Work on the pipeline will start in November.
The development will ease perennial water shortages in the high-density suburb.
Mutare City Council public relations officer Mr Spren Mutiwi said installation of the pipeline will reduce the problem of water bursts.
“Our water infrastructure has aged over the years and we have been trying to repair and maintain them,” he said.
“We hope that after the commissioning of this Dangamvura pipeline, our non-revenue water levels will decrease.”
Council has been working on the problem of water leakages for some time now.
“Last year, loss of treated water through leakages stood at 68 percent and as of this year, it has fallen to 65 percent as a result of our efforts and installation of the Dangamvura pipeline will help in the reduction of water losses,” said Mr Mutiwi.
Council is also urging residents to stop vandalising water infrastructure.
