The books donated to Emthunzini Wethemba Children’s Home in Mzilikazi and Thembiso in Ema- khandeni consist of six story books with folktales, poetry books and novels.
Speaking after handing over 66 books to Emthunzini Wethemba, Usiba Publishers chairman Mr Felix Moyo said stories were important for the mental and cultural development of children.
“We understand that extended families have broken down over the past years and our children have no one to tell them folktales unlike us who had grandparents.Parents are now buying story books for children because they have inganekwane which we compiled for this generation,” said Mr Moyo.

The administrator of Emthunzini Wethemba Children’s Home, Miss Patience Dube expressed gratitude and thanked the company for the books.
“We are happy to receive these books and we know that our children will benefit from these books. The books will also help them improve their iSiNdebele because we notice that most of our schools are not teaching children things that relate to their roots and culture,” said Miss Ndebele.
Speaking later in the day before handing 44 books to children at Thembiso Children’s Home, Mr Moyo bemoaned the dominance of foreign languages in schools, which made children lose confidence in their mother language.
