Utakataka members on recovery path

Dickson Siwela and Prince Kapadza broke their legs when the car they were travelling in as a band was involved in an accident. They were coming from the Unity Gala held at Gokwe Centre, in the Midlands Province.

In an interview, band manager for the Kwekwe-based group, Suko Dube, said the duo was on the road to recovery.

“They were both operated on to fix their fractures and they are recovering from home,” he said.

The band manager said the band members are expected to be back in action sometime in February as they are still using crutches.

“The doctors placed metal braces to fix the two’s fractures. So we hope they will be back in action in six weeks,” he said.

Dube said the band has promised to continue assisting all its band members who are still recovering from home.

“We have already started staging live shows as a way of raising funds to help the two guys who are still not well.

“But we believe that in the coming weeks they will be back in business with the rest of the band,” he said.

Dube said some of the band members who also sustained some injuries from the same accident are now back at work.

“Some of the guys who sustained minor injuries from the same accident include Tobeous Kariko, Manuela Surgen and Judah Musindo,” he said.

Dube said they have got enough manpower to cover for the injured band members.

“So fans should not worry as they are also equally good when it comes to stage performance,” he said.

Injured Utakataka drummer, Kapadza, said he was healing and he was hoping to be back in action anytime soon.

“The operation was successful and I am still using crutches to support my legs, but I hope I will be back in action maybe in February,” he said.

Kapadza said his bosses have been supportive from the time of the accident up to now.

“Peter and everyone in the band have been supportive and they even paid for all my medical bills,” he said.

The Utakataka sub rhythm guitarist, Dickson Siwela, said fans should expect to see him anytime soon.
