Insingizi back after 17-year Europe stay

Dumisani Moyo was a backing vocalist for Insingizi Emnyama up until he relocated to Austria in 1997.

In an interview, Moyo said he was coming back to Zimbabwe as a musician and music producer.

“I got into the Zimbabwean music industry way back in 1990 as one of he backing vocalists for an imbube group Insingizi Emnyama.

“The group was being led by the late Sizanani Moyo who passed away a fortnight ago,” he said.

Insingizi Emnyama produced one of the most successful imbube songs that include Sugar Daddy and many others.

“While with Insingizi Emnyama we performed at different places as they were producing the best songs that include Sugar Daddy.

“In performing at different places I gained a lot of exposure and confidence as a musician,” he said.

Insingizi Emnyama later split in 1997 and this gave him an opportunity to form his own group called Insingizi.

“I decided to relocate to Austria in 1997 with Vusa         Mkhaya and Blessing who were also part of Insingizi Emnyama.

“When we settled in Austria we decided to form our own group called Insingizi and we became popular in Europe,” he said.

Insingizi produced the most successful album called Voices of Southern Africa as the album sold over 230 000 copies in the United States of America alone.

“While in Austria we released Voices of Southern Africa Volume One and Two and the first album broke records especially in the US,” he said.

The album became successful to the extent that some of their songs were used on a Hollywood film called Fat Girls.

“From the album the producers of Fat Girls requested to use some of our songs that include Tholakele and Mwari we.

“This actually became a booster as I developed a passion to become a producer,” he said.

The musician said he started producing his own solo projects and even for Insingizi.

“The passion that I had for producing saw me going to an extent of working on my solo projects Izambulelo and Kunjalo,” he said.

The music producer told Saturday Leisure that his  company is operating under a record label called 10th District Music.

“I have recorded a number of local guys as a way of giving back to the community.

“Some of the musicians that I have recorded so far include Thafi Dube and Ubuntu Bomuntu,” he said.

The musician is working with Majahawodwa “Jeys” Ndlovu on his forthcoming acoustic album.

“At the moment I am back home to work with Marabini on his forthcoming album as we want to take the album to another level.

“We want to take the album into the European market,” he said.

Moyo said the project they are working on with Marabini is expected to be complete sometime in August.

“We are already working on the album and we hope it will be complete anytime in August.

“So fans should expect a new style from Jeys and I am going to contribute a few lines, as I am also a musician,” he said.
