Utseya feels honoured

ZIMBABWEAN bowler Prosper Utseya feels honoured to feature in a SuperSport advert promoting the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Utseya has been cleared to bowl in international cricket once again, providing he does not bowl his off-spin.

The 29-year-old was suspended by the International Cricket Council in October but the decision has been overturned allowing him to play in the World Cup which starts next month if he makes the team.

The ICC announced that tests of Utseya’s bowling action revealed his slow medium deliveries measured within the 15-degree level of tolerance.

Utseya said he is happy to be part of the promotion having gone through a lot in the past few months.

“I think the recognition is good and it feels good to be part of the campaign and I hope it will go a long way in making sure I continue to improve my game.

“I have been through a lot in the past months and representing my country in the SuperSport promotion is an honour.

“I did not think of it but it has now come as a surprise to me.

“The recognition gives me strength to represent my country well and this is good for me,” Utseya said.

The former national team captain also said he was now under pressure to make it into the final team.

“To be part of the promotion comes with pressure on its own considering that the team is not yet announced.

“After featuring in that promotion the next thing is to make the final team which is yet to be announced and that will then make me feel honoured.

“This then means I have to work hard and continue to represent the country,” said Utseya.

The experienced bowler was the former captain of Zimbabwe from 2006 to 2010.

Utseya, who made his debut for Zimbabwe in 2004, has been named in the preliminary 30-man squad for the World Cup which takes place in New Zealand and Australia next month.
