Utseya making amends

AFTER being suspended from bowling in international cricket, former Zimbabwe captain Prosper Utseya has begun working on amending his action at the Soweto Cricket Club.
The off-spinner was suspended by the International Cricket Council in October after being found guilty of suspect bowling action during Zimbabwe’s Third ODI match against South Africa on August 21.

An analysis of his action revealed that all his deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the regulations.
There has been a crackdown on spinners by the ICC in recent months.

Now Utseya is in Johannesburg where he is trying to modify his action.

“In Johannesburg, Utseya is working with South African coach Justin Summons to re-model his bowling action in accordance with ICC’s new protocol,” Zimbabwe Cricket said in a statement.

“The former Zimbabwe captain has three-hour sessions daily with Summons, for the next two weeks.

“During his stay in South Africa, Utseya will play some games for Soweto Cricket Club as part of testing his new action and also to maintain his match fitness levels.”

Utseya has already hailed the support that he has been getting from ZC.

Utseya, who is also handy with the bat, hopes to make it into the Zimbabwe team for the 2015 ICC World Cup.
