Fifty participants attended a recent lecture titled “Getting to Know Russia,” organised by the Centre for Open Education of St Petersburg University in collaboration with the University of Zimbabwe.
The event featured a presentation by Russian representative Ms Daria Averianova, who emphasised the importance of understanding Russian traditions and culture.
“It is crucial for people to learn about our country’s traditions and mentality, as well as life in modern Russia,” she said.
The lecture seamlessly transitioned into an interactive quiz about Russia, allowing participants to test their knowledge while receiving prizes and souvenirs.
Many attendees expressed delight in discovering similarities between Russian and Zimbabwean cultures, particularly in language and customs. Ms Averianova said: “It is wonderful to see such interest.”
She added that the Open Education Centre of St. Petersburg University extended an invitation for participants to join Russian language classes offered at the University of Zimbabwe.
“This initiative is supported by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the My History Foundation for the Support of the Humanities, the Russian Embassy in Zimbabwe, and the University of Zimbabwe,” she said.
