A CLINICAL researcher at the University of Zimbabwe, Dr Godfrey Musoro, has been ordered by the High Court to pay his ex-wife US$3 000 in rehabilitative maintenance in a divorce settlement.
Dr Musoro and Anesu Musoro were customarily married in 1998 before solemnising their marriage on June 30, 2005.
The couple separated in 2018.
They have three children together, one of who was still a minor when the divorce decree was granted by High Court judge, Justice Amy Tsanga, last year.
Dr Musoro runs a surgery and owns properties in various locations, as well as farmland.
His ex-wife, a former Harare City Council worker, was running two salons, a bottle store and butchery, which were taken over by the Dr Musoro’s family, and later confiscated to cover a CABS loan in 2015, leaving her with no other source of income.
He indicated that during the subsistence of their marriage, the pair acquired various properties in Greendale, Milton Park and Eastview as well as two buses, which they later sold.
In her ruling, Justice Tsanga said that Dr Musoro was better placed to support his ex-wife and minor child.
She said Anesu needed something meaningful to sustain her after the breakdown of the marriage.
“Her income earning capacity is definitely reduced and Dr Musoro did not dispute that her income is now merely from selling vegetables.
“Anesu’s rehabilitative maintenance claim of US$3 000 is calculated to cover a six-month period.
“The court also has to take into account the lifestyle that the parties had prior to the breakdown of their marriage.
“Dr Musoro shall pay the sum of US$250 towards maintenance and rental contributions for the minor child… and pay Anesu a lump sum of US$3 000 as rehabilitative maintenance.
“The improvements to the farm known as Wychwood Farm, Goromonzi, shall be valued by an estate agent agreed upon.
“Anesu’s 50 percent share of the value of her contributions…shall be paid to her within a period of six months from the date of the evaluation.”
