The event attracted participants from 10 universities from across the country and they participated in various track and field events. And the University of Zimbabwe harvested a total of 24 medals — 11 golds, five silvers and eight bronze.
They were followed by Midlands State University with 23 medals which included eight gold medals.
Great Zimbabwe University were third with a total of 12 medals while the Harare Institute of Technology came fourth with six medals. Taking fifth place was the National University of Science and Technology with nine medals and most of them were bronze.
Lupane State University managed to get two medals while Chinhoyi University of Technology scooped eight medals including seven bronze and Bindura University of Science claimed two medals. Catholic University and Women’s University in Africa failed to win any medals.
UZ athletes Vezokuhle Ndlovu and Leona Musikavanhu scooped the best male and female athletes awards respectively. Ndlovu won three gold medals and one silver for his team while Musikavanhu picked four gold medals.
UZ director for sports, Life Chemhere, said they were happy with their team’s overall performance during Saturday’s competition.
“I think we had the best athletes with the best times, some of them are young and are in their first year, which means we have a bright future,” said Chemhere.
