‘V6’ Phiri laid to rest

Zimbabwe Professional Golfers Association president, Tongo Charamba, said he was still to come to terms with Phiri’s sudden death.
“It is very sad that we have lost one of our members who supported the sport very much and he managed to nurture several other play­ers who are now competitive,” Charamba said.
“It is with great pain that ‘V6’ is no more and to his family we say we are with you during this time  of bereavement. Phiri was a hardworking golfer who was talented,” Charamba said.
Zambezi Tour marketing and communica­tions director, Tendayi Gwatiringa, said this was one of the darkest moments for local golf.
“Vengesai was a prominent member of the Tour and regularly finished in the top 10.
“In his last official game at the FSG Lowveld Pro-Am, Vengesai finished joint fifth.
“As the Zambezi Tour, we will surely miss him. Rest in peace ‘V6’,” said Gwatiringa.
Phiri was a resident professional for several golf clubs.
He grew up at Norton Country Club where his father was a caretaker. He was married to Abigail and the pair was blessed with four chil­dren.
