Parents and caregivers across Zimbabwe have been urged to ensure that children under the age of 10 receive the polio vaccine.
The national immunization campaign will run from November 26 to 29, 2024 and is led by Government.
In an interview, Dr Shadreck Chiduwo, a paediatrician who works at a local hospital said vaccination against polio is key in children’s life cycle.
“Polio is a highly contagious disease that can cause irreversible paralysis.
“By participating in the vaccination campaign, parents can help protect their children and contribute to a polio-free future,” he said.
Health workers will be stationed at various locations, including schools and community centres, to administer the vaccine.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to take their children to the nearest health facility to receive the vaccine.
Unicef Zimbabwe is running an online awareness campaign to encourage vaccination.
“Every shot counts for a healthier future. #EndPolio,” posted Unicef Zimbabwe on their X handle.
