Vaccine uptake rises

The uptake of the Sinopharm vaccine continues to rise, with 3 126 frontline workers vaccinated yesterday up to 4pm.

This means 15 705 frontline workers have been vaccinated since the start of the programme.

Zimbabwe received a donation of 200 000 jabs from China recently and they are enough for 100 000 people since one person will take two jabs.

More vaccines are expected soon after China promised to donate an additional 200 000 vaccines. India has also pledged a donation of 75 000 jabs, which are expected in the country soon.

Government has also bought some vaccines from China, in a development expected to see the roll-out being accelerated. President Mnangagwa announced last week that he will be vaccinated together with his ministers when the second batch of vaccines are delivered.

Meanwhile, the measures being implemented by Government to fight the spread of Covid-19 are paying dividends, after no deaths were reported yesterday.

A daily update released by the Ministry of Health and Child Care said: “Fourteen new (Covid-19) cases and no deaths reported in the last 24 hours. All are local cases.”

Harare reported eight new cases, the highest compared to other provinces.

As of February 26 at 3pm, Zimbabwe had 161 hospitalised Covid-19 cases with 109 being asymptomatic, 38 mild to
moderate, six severe and eight were in intensive care units across the country.

Yesterday, 1 302 tests done while 51 new recoveries were reported, leaving the national recovery rate at 90,4 percent.
Active cases have gone down to 2 005.

As of February 27, Zimbabwe has recorded 36 058 cases, 32 590 recoveries and 1 463 deaths.
