JAMIE Vardy’s Italian villa was reportedly raided by a gang of robbers who stole jewellery and watches worth £80,000.
The former England striker and his wife Rebekah share the villa overlooking the picturesque Lake Garda in northern Italy.
Vardy lives in a luxurious £2m villa in the historic city of Salo— and the footie star and his wife have been spotted out and around having dinner. He moved into the villa —which has a beautiful view of the famous lake—after signing for Italian top-flight newcomers Cremonese.
But a thug reportedly broke into his house through a window before stealing jewellery, cash and other high-value objects — including a Patek Philippe. They are said to have orchestrated the raid while Vardy was in Rome playing in his side’s 3-1 defeat on Sunday.
A police source told Daily Mail: “We think the gang have been watching him and his family and timed the break-in to coincide when he was away in Rome.” Another police source said: “We have CCTV which shows the individuals entering the house through a window that was left open. “They were on the premises for several minutes before escaping with the watch and several other high-value items. There was a woman inside, not his wife but the babysitter.”
Vardy moved to Salo and bought the lavish Villa earlier in the summer.
The city is most famous as the home of World War 2 dictator Benito Mussolini whose great-grandson Romano is now one of Vardy’s teammates. He came on a free transfer from Leicester, where had had played for 13 seasons and signed on a 12-month contract with the Serie A side. The striker scored 183 goals in 440 appearances for Leicester City.
Since moving to Italy, he has played eight times and scored twice, picking up two yellow cards, and his first goal for Cremonese was last month against Atalanta.
Cremona is a city renowned for its famous violins. Vardy previously told the club’s media channel: “It’s been absolutely brilliant.
“I was told it was quite a quiet city which I’ll be honest for the past few days its not been that quiet.” He added: “What an incredible place this there are violins here that are from the 15th and 16th century. “They have to be played once a week to keep them in tune and they look brand new, I couldn’t get my mind around it.”
A source previously told The Sun: “Jamie and Becky are already loving Italian life, and doing all they can to blend in seamlessly.”
Vardy, 38 and Rebekah, 43, have been together since 2014 and got married two years later. They have a total of six children — three of them are from their own marriage, two are from Becky’s other relationships and another is from Vardy’s past romance.
Just days ago, Vardy took to the pitch with Cremonese wearing a special jersey with his wife’s name on. He started for the Italian club for a crunch Serie A clash against Roma at Stadio Giovanni Zini. However, the striker joined his team-mates by not having their own names written on the back of his shirts.
Instead, the former England international had his signature No10 accompanied by “Becky” for a very touching reason. Cremonese are participating in an amazing initiative called “A Red to Violence”, which is dedicated to a campaign against domestic abuse.—Sun.
