Valentine’s Day treat with a difference

CLUBS in Bulawayo have this year shunned hosting Miss Valentine’s contests, saying it was a waste of time as the competition has lost its touch. The joints have come up with various activities to attract revellers on the day meant to celebrate love.

Save for Club Forty 40, most popular night spots have come up with different activities this Valentine’s Day, such as dancehall dance competitions, beauty therapy vouchers and dinner for two vouchers.

In an interview with Chronicle Entertainment yesterday, Bulawayo Dj Joe Da OG said Miss Valentines was a played out concept and people needed fresh ideas.

He said modelling competitions do not make economic sense in the prevailing economic climate.
“Miss Valentines has been overdone as a concept. I think people are tired of it.  They want something new this year. So we decided to shelve such projects and concentrate on others that we have,” said Joe da OG.

He said at Walkers Night Club they would be hosting Dance Hall Queen competition, a dance competition for those who are keen to show their dance moves on Valentine’s Day.

“This is a competition for ladies who can dance to dance hall music. The crowd will judge the person who is the best dancer out of the 12 ladies that would be selected during the ongoing registration,” said Joe da OG.

He said there will be a VIP section for couples where there will be meals and wine served.
“VIP section is $30 per couple and it includes two meals, two glasses of wine and four ciders. This will be part of the festivities for the night and those who think they can challenge the chosen contestants are free to do so,” said Joe da OG.

Horizon Pub and Grill will also not be left out as they have lined up a ball. Mduduzi Mdlongwa of 3D Entertainment said the Valentine’s Ball will have spot prizes for those who are given tickets.

He also agreed with Joe da OG that Miss Valentines modelling contests have been overdone adding that they were tasteless.
“We have 10 vouchers to give away through a raffle draw.  We have five for facial treatment and the other five with full body massage including sliming and toning courtesy of Protouch. Others will walk away with dinner for two vouchers and shoes of their choice from Apple.”

At Hustlers Leisure Centre a White Party will be held on the day of love.
“We will have prizes for the best dressed couple. We shall give away 12 bottles of Strawberry lips and five bottles of champagne on the day,” said DJ Phat Joe, who is a resident DJ at the night spot.

At Eden Bar DJ Slammer said they were hosting a Valentine’s party for those who wanted to spend the night in the dance floor.
