LOG leaders Value Gas maintained their firm hold at the summit of the Bulawayo Corporate Social Soccer League after a walkover victory over Coca-Cola on Saturday.

With six matches played, Value Gas now sit on 16 points, opening a three-point cushion over second-placed Warehouse Distribution, who still have a game in hand. Simbisa FC continue to keep the pressure on in third place after a solid 2-0 victory over Zimtile, taking their tally to 12 points from five outings.

The weekend’s fixtures produced a mixture of tight contests and dominant performances, highlighting the competitive nature of the league. Overnight Express edged Hope 1-0 in a closely contested encounter, while Nust Academy Stars and Chibuku settled for a goalless draw in a match where defences stood firm.

Another stalemate was recorded between Proton FC and Warehouse Distribution, as well as between Rydings Auto and Millennium FC, underlining how evenly matched teams have been across the board.

Simbisa’s victory over Zimtile was one of the standout results, showcasing their attacking intent, while Ostrich FC delivered the most emphatic performance of the round with a convincing 4-1 win over Grills FC.

Lonestar also found form, dispatching Evergold 3-1 in a match that, however, ended under unclear circumstances after being reported as abandoned.

Elsewhere, Speed Shipping’s encounter against ZETDC was postponed, leaving both sides with games in hand that could prove crucial as the season progresses.

League chairman Timothy Mandizadza expressed satisfaction with the competitiveness shown so far, saying the league was living up to expectations.

“We are encouraged by the level of competition and commitment from all teams. Every week we are seeing closely contested matches and that is exactly what we envisioned when we set up this league,” said Mandizadza.

He added that the league remains focused on promoting corporate wellness and unity through sport.

Hope coach Ocean Ncube, whose side suffered a narrow defeat to Overnight Express, remained optimistic despite the setback.

“It’s disappointing to lose such a tight game, but I am proud of the effort from the boys. We are creating chances and, with a bit more composure in front of goal, results will start coming our way,” said Ncube.
