adminLONDON. — Manchester United have splashed out £58,8 million on Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera in a statement of their intent to return to the top of the English Premier League.
United have beaten Chelsea to the signing of Southampton star Shaw just 24 hours after wrapping up the £28,8 million purchase of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Herrera. The England left-back has passed a medical and put pen to paper on a five-year contract.
Shaw spent Thursday night in Manchester and was set to be officially unveiled by the club later yesterday.
The 18-year-old becomes the most expensive teenager and defender in history and is Louis Van Gaal’s second summer signing. United will pay £33 million — £27 million plus add-ons — for the youngster after upping their offer to beat off competition from Chelsea.
Vice executive chairman Ed Woodward has signalled the near £60m outlay in a bid to wrap up the signings quickly and avoid a repeat of last summer’s transfer sagas. — Mailonline.
