Van Gaal set to sign three-year £25m Man Utd deal

Louis van Gaal is in pole position to be named Manchester United’s new boss – as early as this week. Holland coach van Gaal is ready to pen a three-year deal worth around £25million to succeed the sacked David Moyes. While he’ll be bringing his own backroom staff with him, Van Gaal is likely to keep on United’s temporary boss Ryan Giggs as part of his coaching team.

Giggs – who has been placed in charge of outgoing champions United’s final four games of the season – began his tenure with an emphatic 4-0 home win over Norwich on Saturday, to the delight of the home crowd.

Although the United hierarchy have told Giggs there can be no assurances he will be given a role under the new boss, it is understood Van Gaal welcomes continuity and will keep Giggs on.

The 62-year-old former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach is keen to reach agreement with the Old Trafford giants this week, so he can concentrate fully on leading his country at this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.

The Dutch squad are due to meet up for their first pre-tournament get-together at the back end of next week, and Van Gaal – who is stepping down after the World Cup – wants nothing to distract him or his players as they bid for glory.

Although Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was also on United’s radar, he has now ruled himself out of the running.
Unlike free-agent Van Gaal, Ancelotti would cost a huge amount in compensation to extricate from the Bernabeu – unless he is sacked by the Spanish giants at the end of the season.

That leaves Van Gaal poised to take the job, with deals to bring in Southampton’s Luke Shaw, Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos, Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus and Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala already well under way. — Mirror
