Vandaliser sentenced to 30 years

A 40-year-old Eastview man was sentenced to 30 years in prison for vandalising electrical cables.

Tinotenda Mahove was convicted on six counts of Contravening Section 60 A(3) of the Electricity Act Chapter 13:19.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police, Criminal Investigations Department spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri said during the period extending from September 24, 2024 to December 6, 2024, Tinotenda together with his accomplice, Kennedy who is still at large, went on a vandalism spree in Ruwa, Mt Hampden, Mazowe and Bindura.

They would target armoured cables, copper wires and transformers.

His luck finally ran out on January 31, 2025, when he was arrested after being found in the act of cutting armoured copper cables in Acturus.

This was after an alert member of the public witnessed the accused in the act, prompting him to alert the police for immediate intervention.

Some of the copper cables and various implements used in the commission of the crimes were recovered.
