VANDALISM has forced Gweru City Council to close public toilets at a popular commuter omnibus rank in the city.
The rank popularly known as, TM rank, which services commuter omnibuses plying different routes including the busiest City-Mkoba route, is used by hundreds of commuters every day but the city council closed the rank’s public toilets forcing touts, drivers, vendors and commuters to relieve themselves in alleys.
Gweru Town Clerk, Ms Elizabeth Gwatipedza, said thefts of water taps and sinks forced council to close the public toilets. “It’s a pity that after the refurbishment of the toilets by Unki Mines company, residents vandalised the toilets stealing taps, sinks and cisterns. It seems residents do not appreciate the importance of these public toilets,” said Ms Gwatipedza.
