THOUSANDS of apostolic and Zion congregants converged in Mashonaland Central Province over the weekend for a Vapostori for Economic Development (VED) rally held in support of Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3 (CAB3), amid calls for peace, unity and sustained national development.
The colourful gathering, marked by prayer, song and dance, attracted worshippers from various apostolic sects and Zion churches across the province, with congregants expressing support for President Mnangagwa’s leadership and the proposed constitutional amendment.
Among senior Government officials who attended the rally were Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Christopher Magomo, and Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs, Cde Monica Mavhunga.
Zanu PF Vice Political Commissar and Vapostori for ED member, Madzibaba Biggie Musanzika, also attended the event and commended congregants for demonstrating unity and commitment.
Vapostori for Economic Development National Vice Chairperson, Archbishop Tsungai Ushe, represented the organisation’s National Chairperson, Madzibaba Moses Gwasarira, who was reportedly engaged in other religious commitments.
Speaking during the gathering, several congregants said the proposed seven-year presidential term under CAB3 would create a stable environment conducive to development and the implementation of long-term projects.
“We now have more time to concentrate on farming and working for our families without frequent political disruptions,” said congregant Stewart Madziwanzira.
Addressing the rally, Cde Magomo applauded Vapostori for ED for promoting peace and national development through prayer and community engagement.
He pledged to facilitate the allocation of land for the organisation’s future prayer gatherings and encouraged apostolic sect members to prioritise education for their children.
“Children must be sent to school so that they can also secure employment and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he said.
Cde Mavhunga commended congregants for promoting discipline within communities and discouraging social ills among young people.
She said churches and religious organisations remained critical in fostering moral values and responsible citizenship, while encouraging youths to shun violence, child marriages, drug abuse and substance misuse.
Madzibaba Musanzika said the successful rally had provided a platform for provincial leaders and congregants to demonstrate unity and engage with Government officials on issues affecting communities.
The event ended with prayers for peace, unity and economic development as congregants continued singing and dancing in celebration of the gathering and their support for CAB3.
