SONGBIRD Varaidzo Nyakunika-Mwanandimai has returned to the music scene after a five-year hiatus.
The 30-year-old songwriter, who rocked the urban grooves scene along with Leonard Mapfumo and Russo Chiradza around 2014, is back with her new album titled Varaidzo The Comeback.
The album has captivating songs like Tempted, featuring Nyasha David, Naye (Guita by Adrian Tate), ‘‘Without Me’’, ‘‘Ziva’’ and ‘‘Ndisinewe’’.
Her manager, Tinashe Jani, said:
“Although she has been on a five-year hiatus, in which she was focusing on her law career, building a family and establishing her business, the fact that she stands as a force to reckon with musically remains unchanged,
“In 2023, the talented star is back on the music scene and this time, she is here to stay.
“Be prepared to hear her voice back on the radio alongside your current artists.
“The album is part of her return and she is dropping it on March 15.
“Visuals are also coming soon and she is working with Blaqs,” he said.
Her project coincides with Women’s Month.
“The honest truth is February was the target
launch month of my return,” she sad.
“The theme of love and my songs just aligned.
“However, as I continued to work on the songs I realised my songs touched on more than love and more on womanhood and the different stages we go through on navigating life and relationships.
“That’s why March just felt more right.”
Varaidzo, ventured into the music industry at the age of 18, in 2011.
“I began singing at the age of nine with singers like Mariah Carey and Beyonce playing a dominant role in influencing my art.
“With one album and a number of singles under my belt, I have managed to make significant strides in the highly competitive Zimbabwean music industry,” she said.
Her authentic and unmatched vocal abilities are her distinct trademarks.
Her powerful voice, whistle register and vocal versatility unique to her, have fuelled her towards national recognition.
She has one hit sing, ‘‘Ndakuwana’’, which peaked at number 2, staying for sixteen consecutive weeks on the Star FM charts.
Her most notable singles include ‘‘Ndoita Manyemwe’’, in which she joined forces with urban grooves, Leornard Mapfumo and Russo.
Apart from music, Varaidzo is a registered lawyer with a Bachelor of Laws degree from Rhodes University.
