HEALTH and Child Care Minister, Dr Douglas Mombeshora has expressed satisfaction with the steady improvement in pharmacy stock levels at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital – which is the provincial referral centre.
Dr Mombeshora made the remarks during his tour of the hospital this afternoon, which is part of his ongoing countrywide assessment of health facilities.
While acknowledging progress, he noted that more work is needed to reach optimal levels.
Following a tour of the wards and pharmacy, Minister Mombeshora observed that medicine stocks had improved significantly since the beginning of the year.
“I am pleased with the stock level, which has increased from 48 percent to almost 61 percent. Although this is an improvement, we still have a way to go to reach the optimal level of 80 percent stock in our pharmacies,” he said.
Minister Mombeshora also highlighted the need for additional qualified personnel in the pharmacy department.
“The hospital has five pharmacies, but fewer pharmacists. We need to increase the number of pharmacists to ensure each pharmacy is manned by a qualified professional,” he said.
Minister Mobeshora reaffirmed his commitment to addressing gaps in the healthcare system, ensuring hospitals across the country are adequately equipped to provide quality care.
His visit aimed to evaluate hospital infrastructure, equipment, and services while engaging with medical staff and patients to understand their challenges and needs.
The visit was welcomed by hospital staff and patients.
The institution’s medical superintendent, Dr Hillary Makiwa praised the Minister’s visit, saying it demonstrated the Government’s commitment to improving service delivery in the public health sector.
