MBIRA player, Vee Mhofu, believes his performance at Mbuya Stella Chiweshe’s funeral wake and burial has opened new doors for him.
Vee Mhofu, who was backed by the Dziva ReMbira outfit, voluntarily played at the funeral for two days and one night.
The mbira queen succumbed to cancer on January 20.
She was buried the traditional way at her arts centre in Masembura, Bindura.
“Firstly, I would like to thank my fans who are always rallying behind me at both my private and public shows.
“While we still mourn Mbuya Stella Chiweshe, I got global attention from Mbuya’s fans after performing at the venue.
“Many people have been calling me after watching my performance and I give credit to Mbuya Stella Chiweshe.
“Our album is coming soon.
“We have a collaboration that we did with Mbuya Stella Chiweshe’s daughter (Virginia Mukwesha).”
He said he was ready for the international stage.
He also hailed local promoters for having faith in his brand. “I would like to thank the promoters and fans who are really behind us. We always do live streaming of our live performances on Facebook, which has helped us to grow our fan base,” he said.
Vee Mhofu, who is the second born in a family of four boys and three girls, opened up on his private life.“I have a wife and child. ‘
“We are blessed with an eight-year-old daughter named Matipa,” he said.
He sings along with his siblings Tawanda, Tapiwa and Tanaka.
He said his dream was to emulate the late mbira queen, Mbuya Chiweshe who used mbira to promote the Zimbabwean culture abroad.
