PRESIDENT Mnangagwa yesterday handed over 21 vehicles and cash to the Zanu PF Women’s League and the party’s affiliate, Young Women for Economic Development, to enhance and ensure the continuity of projects spearheaded by the Government and the party.
The vehicles and cash were donated by businessman and philanthropist Mr Wicknell Chivayo to enhance the Government and party’s economic development projects and initiatives.
Six vehicles were allocated to the Women’s League leadership and 10 cars were distributed to all the country’s provinces.
In addition, the President handed over US$500 000 to the Women’s League to be distributed equally across the 10 Provinces to support various economic development and empowerment initiatives.
He also handed over five vehicles to the affiliate, Young women4ED and US$100 000.
ZANU PF secretary for Women’s Affairs Cde Mabel Chinomona said the gesture will help support the party’s programmes.
“This gesture of vehicles and cash will go a long way in ensuring that the party’s programmes continue, as well as in mobilising grassroots support,” she said.
“As the Women’s League, we would like to thank President Mnangagwa for continuing to support us as women we in turn we will continue to support our President, party and the Government.”
Young Women for Economic Development chairperson Cde Tatenda Mavetera said the vehicles will go a long way in supporting the work being done by the affiliate.
“The vehicles have empowered us to conduct our work which we have dubbed ‘fishers of men’ which is a programme that seeks to mobilise grassroots support for the party,” she said.
“We have also been empowered with cash that will be used in various party projects such as poultry, piggery and goats schemes.”
President Mnangagwa has handed over vehicles to ZANU PF Central Committee members, tipper trucks and front-end loaders for the youth and people with disabilities.
